Having read (and loved) Lush Life and Oscar Wao over the summer, I find this almost too good to be true. Price: "I think the Lower East Side is the Star Wars bar. Everybody thinks it's a done deal and it's all yuppie. Man, that thing, I mean, there's more afterbirth than rebirth. You go half a block, and you're in China. You're not even in China, you're in Fujian Province. And then you go into the projects and you're in black-and-Hispanicsville. And then you go over here and you're in Orthodox Jewville. And then you got the kids that, it's like they're in Rent but they have credit cards. So they don't have to say, 'Ooh, light my candle.' They'll go to Restoration Hardware and buy a fucking lamp."

Wired Gadget Lab: "It's possible that Apple is taking so long to implement copy and paste not because it is difficult, but because Apple is reinventing it. Imagine a system-wide menu added to all applications which, instead of shuffling items off to a clipboard, lists all the places you can send that file (or text string)." Suck it, Leventhal.

Peak meat! David Chang: "The machinery that's pumped so much meat into our lives over the last half century was never built to last, and now it's breaking down big-time. Feed is more expensive. Gasoline is more expensive. Milk, rice, butter, corn--it's all going through the roof. And for the foreseeable future, it's not coming back down." [hat tip: Kottke]

Dan Lyons: "The real kicker was when I ran into Owen Thomas of Valleywag after the panel and he told me where he and the uber-geeks were having dinner tonight after all of their glorious collaborative filtering and scouring of their trusted online networks—the Union Oyster House."

Remember that we'll get through this mess we're in, and we'll have great stories to tell about it for the rest of our lives. Never work in a job that makes you miserable. Love your family, help your friends. Buy drinks for strangers."

SoSH: "Boston will make its first visit to the new Yankee Stadium for games on Monday and Tuesday, May 4-5 to be followed by two weekend series in the Bronx, August 7-9 and September 25-27." You can never plan for this sort of thing too early.

Mark Cuban, bringing the awesome at TechCrunch 50 conference: "Maybe I'm missing something, but that just sounded like the biggest bunch of bullshit I've ever heard in my life... Let me give you a suggestion, don't make it a mass application, make it a corporate application. Then all you have to do is find one kindred messed up soul in an organization and you can sell them anything."

"All Alex Rodriguez has to do is average 22 home runs a year over the 10 years and he'll get his money. And because he'll hit 35 to 40, he'll have this thing done by the sixth year. My point was, I wanted to make $315 million, and I wanted the probability to be in the 90th percentile that he will do it." Oh what do you know, Boras actually negotiated full ARod contract. Color me shocked. [via the schadenfreudtastic NYYFans]
