Last Day in LA | 08:21 PM
The weather in Los Angeles has been beautiful this month, ranging from a few genuinely warm days, to a day of solid rain. Today, though, it's like an October day in Maine -- clear blue skies, bracing breeze, and voluminous clouds hugging the tops of the hills. What a way to go out.
It's been an interesting month, but it's time to come home, after a quick detour through Colorado.

Eater: Morandi Fever: Photo #00001! Can't believe I'm in LA, missing this. (On the other hand: Matsuhisa tonight.)

Mark Evans: The XM-Sirius Deal Can't Save Satellite-Radio. I was a longtime satellite radio doubter (jesus, that was 2002?), but I wonder if just the merger of all the major sportsleagues onto one system could be enough to make this work. (Related: the absolute deepest bullshit of 2007 thus far.)

Thomped on that Google hard drive failure data. Though current generation drives may have improved, the last few years at Gawker have been painful.

Snack: stealth opening nyc: mission impossible? Danny Meyer: "Imagine your local hardware store or dry cleaner or deli on opening day. They still have to hang bunting and banners to get attention from would be patrons. All we have to do is turn the key and hold the door open!"

Trying over the last few months, without much success, to fall in love with the email program Thunderbird. This might help. Related: Gina and Adam from Lifehacker spent the afternoon at 832 15th Street today -- great time.

Yesterday, MOP hosted the Palmermix 2006 release party at The Other Room, the Abbott Kinney bar with the same owners (and vibe) as the -Room bars in downtown New York (with the exception of the palm trees outside). In the house: plenty of celebrities!

Bloggers on the move: Brownstoner goes full time; Felix Salmon returns to the mothership (bonus: "Stay tuned for news of my visit to Del Posto!"); and, with pain meds in tow, Carney's back at Dealbreaker. (Here's the real story behind his month away.)

Recent blog media love: NYT Business on Consumerist and Lifehacker; Guardian on Gridskipper; and NYT Styles on NYC food bloggers. (Leventhal's getting lots of love email.)
Also: Greg Lindsay files for MediaBistro on fashion bloggers. Great bits near the end about The Sartorialist.

We Bought a Wii | 12:38 PM
Trolling Craiglist, found a teenage entrepreneur five blocks away who'd stockpiled a bunch of Wiis. Clever kid.
Steven Johnson pretty much nailed our enjoyment of this device. Above, bowling!

Los Angeles | 09:34 PM
Spending the month of February in Los Angeles, working from a place I rented with Chris Batty in Santa Monica. An ersatz Gawker HQ West.
February 1, first morning in LA. MOP hosted me at his new Venice beach bungalow.
Scones were enjoyed.
Our place, at 832 15th Street (at Montana). More photos at, and to follow, in this Flickr photoset.
