Adultworld Review

April 25, 2003 A mere four months after the fact, Citysearch names Adultworld their bar of the week. But our two recent visits to this microclub (imagine a more bare-bones Abaya) have proved so painful that, alas, it has been moved to our banned establishments list for miscellaneous crimes against nightlife (our previous enthusiasm notwithstanding).

I actually think Lockhart Steele is a bit premature in writing off Adultworld on the basis of two "painful" visits. The smoking ban and the unavoidable influx of curious bargoers from points non-LES will contaminate the space for a few months, but my sense is that the People will take back the night apace and it will be soon a safe haven once more. Provided those specious "orgies" that keep cropping up all over town don't take root there. I also have to hand it to Citysearch--Bar of the Week is a much sought-after accolade and they really know how to pick 'em.

Idlewild seems to have given Fridays over to the "mile high club", so i wouldn't doubt it if these parties show up at Adultworld too.
What's the deal with this place anyways? What's so special about it?

I think the place needs some better lighting effects. Thank god the smoking ban is in effect in that windowless cavern. I did think the enterance thru the basement is "interesting" but the sink needs to be tweeked a bit IMO.

ugh, you are so right. for about a month or so, this was a great place for a late drink. people didn't really start to filter in until 1:30 or 2 a.m. but the last time i was there (about two weeks ago), i was so fed up with the UES frat boys and dangerously unbalanced french tourists that i couldn't even finish my drink. and now citysearch. the only thing worse would be a mention in time out.

Adult World has become a snore. It's a shame, because I actually like the space. Although, I've fallen down those stairs more than I'd care to admit. :-o

Mile high? Oh they sure have. Those onelegupnyc.com faux sex events seem to love Adultworld. Seems every time I walk my dog down Suffolk there is some upper east side couple, dressed in latex, jumping out of a cab to dash inside.
